DO YA?
Do Ya? is a UK Beetleweight and the first competition robot for Retcon Robotics. It's basic design is a wedge shape with front hinge flipper. It has 10mm HDPE bulkheads and 3mm Mild Steel side armour and front 'tongue' with a 4mm mild steel top plate and flipping arm.
The robot is named after the ELO song of the same name.
HISTORY
2021
Do Ya? first competed at the Chatham Challenge Belt Beetleweight event in July 2021 where it went out in the group stages, going 0:3.
Its first fight was against Beetle veteran Dave Weston with his new vert 7th Circle. The fight started well with a box rush but missing, despite this, Do Ya was able to pin the side of 7th Circle. After escaping, 7th Circle managed to pop Do Ya a little before meeting it head to head, rolling it onto its back. Despite the robot not being able to self right, Do Ya could drive inverted and continued to attack 7th Circle. 7th Circle managed to get another hit on Do Ya, putting it up against the side wall and immobilising it there.
In its second fight, David Harrison drove the bot against new eggbeater Exhilerator. Once again it was a strong start but after a pop up into the air, Do Ya was on the back foot. The Exhilerator then came in and bent the rear armour into the wheel, immobilising DoYa.
DoYa suffered some last minute repairs in the pits that were done too quickly to aid me as I was on stream, leading to DoYa not powering up in its third and final fight, therefor forfeiting the match.
It later had some whiteboard melees where it showed a little more promise, winning its first fight in the GRFC Rumble Qualifiers.
Do Ya? returned to the arena for RoboNerd 2021, competing in the Content Creator Rumble against many other YouTubers in the Robot Combat scene. After a hard fought battle, Do Ya? was the last robot standing, being crowned the Content Creator Champion 2021.
Do Ya? competed at the BBB Beetle Champs in November 2021, where it lost both of its competition matches - the first in a melee with Vertical Spinner Drizzle (who placed 3rd at the event) and Enigma who was OOTAd early in the match and then by judges decision in the redemption rounds to lifter Cascade.
It competed in the 42(ish) bot Gladiator at the end of the event, lasting near to the end where it was eventually pitted.
2022
Do Ya? returned in some whiteboards at the BBB Beetle Brawl, held in February 2022. It featured a new paint scheme to resemble Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' - this to be its funeral armour as the bot would be retired after this event. It entered a five way rumble against Drizzle, Night Fury, BadFutherMucka and Ting Tang Walla Walla Bing Bang which it survived to the end of, winning the overall judge's decision. The robot was however meant to be written off in that match and so was entered into a second rumble against Bby Shrekt, BadFutherMucka and Aggro Wobba Smidders Edition. Despite getting under both Shrekt and FutherMucka, Do Ya was hit in some key areas, the last of which being the removable link that was knocked just enough to turn the robot off. Despite this and some very bent and battered armour, DoYa was still functional after this event.
